A note on privacy and names

This is a work of memoir, and memoir carries an obligation the newspaper does not: to protect the people who did not choose to be in it. There is another adult in this story, and there are two children, and none of them agreed to be written about. So I have not written about them.

Names, identifying details, locations, and the specifics of a legal process still underway have been changed, blurred, or left out entirely. Where I could not tell the truth without exposing someone who is not me, I kept the truth pointed where it belongs: at myself. Everything in these pages is filtered through the one interior I have any standing to report. If a detail here seems to describe a real person, it does not. It describes the inside of one man, in one crisis.

What this site collects

Reading costs nothing and asks for nothing. There is no account, no paywall and no registration, and every chapter is readable without giving anything at all.

The only data this site ever collects is an email address, and only if you type one into the form to ask for the PDF. It is used to send you the PDF and, occasionally, a note when something new goes up. It is never sold, rented or passed to advertisers. Every email carries a way out, and you can also just reply and ask to be removed, which works just as well.

The site runs no advertising trackers. It uses Google Analytics to count visits, which sets a cookie in your browser to tell one visit from another. That measurement is never used for advertising, and ad personalisation is switched off at the source. The only other thing stored in your browser is your reading preference, the light or dark setting and the text size, kept locally so the page looks the same when you come back. Nothing about it leaves your device.

The PDF email is sent from hello@nobodytellsyoudivorce.com through a standard email provider, which processes the message in order to deliver it. To have your address deleted, write to that same address and it will be removed.
